Our Festival is transforming into a more immersive and expansive experience, one that explores theatre through many forms of storytelling over the course of a concentrated experience (think: SXSW meets Comic Con meets Coachella).
Our vision is to create a cohesively curated Festival destination where the audience’s experience is centered, creating multiple pathways for dynamic engagement with an array of programmatic offerings informed by and featuring cross-pollination from across disciplines and mediums.
Learn more here about the W71 Experience Design.
In the lead up to the Festival, audiences will receive information about the Berkshires (where to eat, where to stay, transportation information), information about how to navigate different venues, and pre show information encompassing Box Office hours, run time, intermission length, Box Office policies, links to further information about content and experience elements, and a brief overview of what to expect from experience design.
Audiences will receive a “Passport” that will serve as their program for the whole of their Festival weekend. This Passport will include ads for local businesses, show information, and an area for a stamp. Patrons will receive digital tickets sent to their email that will be scanned at the door.
Before their first performance, Passholders will check in with the Audience Engagement team and receive their passport, tickets, and badges.
As part of the W71 Experience, opted-in patrons, both Weekend Passholders and single ticket buyers, will receive SMS messages before, during, and just after their Weekend to further curate their experience. These messages will range from general information and welcomes, free and discounted offerings to local businesses, show-specific dramaturgy, pre and post show information, invitations to third places, and Festival surveys. Patrons will be able to reply directly to these messages to speak to a member of the Audience Engagement team.
The Audience Engagement team, in addition to standard Box Office and Front of House training, will take on presentational elements of experience design, supporting the overall theme or feeling each show experience is curating. As part of this work, the full Audience Engagement team has received general and show- and content-specific training around audience activation, de-escalation, bystander intervention, and caretaking.
General attendance information will be sent from the Box Office, and the Festival experience messages will be sent from a designated “Activities Director.”
SMS messages can be opted-into or out of at any time by texting START to 413.458.3253.
The Box Office can be reached by calling the Box Office Hotline at 413.458.3253 during the following hours:
